Switzerland's International Cooperation strategy 2021-24 envisages a gradual withdrawal from Latin America and the Caribbean by 2024. After more than half a century of development cooperation, Switzerland is closing its bilateral programmes in Bolivia, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua.

After 54 years of supporting the country's development, the Swiss bilateral cooperation definitively concluded its work in Bolivia on June 2024, through a responsible closure process.

Republic of Cuba
As part of the 2021-2024 International Cooperation Strategy, the Swiss Parliament decided to phase-out its bilateral development cooperation in Latin America. The Exit Program emphasises consolidating results and ensuring sustainability of its results.

Republic of Nicaragua
The cooperation between Nicaragua and Switzerland dates back to 1979 with a commitment to the country’s reconstruction and recovery when the dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza ended after the civil war.
