Sustainable Vegetable Production and Marketing Project

The project's impact, validated through final evaluation, is evident in increased income for producers, expanded vegetable consumption, and greater market share for Mongolian small-scale producers. Unintended social innovations include self-organized micro-credit groups, consumer-focused social media presence, and voluntary MFARD branches (Mongolian Farmers’ Association for Rural Development). Collaboration is deemed crucial for success, and without the Project, the sector would be less organized and more susceptible to shocks. The Project significantly boosted Mongolia's vegetable sector, raising domestic production to 70-80%. New vegetable varieties led to 1.4-2.4 times higher production of cabbage, turnip, onions, and garlic in 2022.

Green Gold Animal Health Project

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the number of livestock in Mongolia has nearly tripled – to the detriment of the country's grasslands. The SDC has supported an array of measures to encourage the sustainable use of pastureland, and to improve animal health and the marketing of livestock products. These efforts helped safeguard the livelihoods of nomadic herder families.
